JULY 2020

We have recently received accreditation from UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) for European Standards (BS EN ISO 17892) for classification and undrained shear strength tests.  Our updated schedule of accreditation can be viewed here.

We continue to carry out testing in accordance with BS1377.  However,  if you require your testing to be carried out in accordance with these updated standards please contact us.

APRIL 2019

As of April 2019 K4 have successfully made the transition to ISO17025:2017 and are now accredited by UKAS for Effective Stress and Triaxial Permeability Testing.

PLASTICITY INDEX REQUESTS

If you have been advised by a building inspector to contact us to carry out a plasticity index test, then please follow the guidance below.

  1. Please ensure all samples are sealed in a plastic bag or other appropriate container to  prevent loss of moisture.
  2. The amount of sample required depends on the soil type. As rough guide, If the soil is pure clay then 500g will suffice, but if there is gravel and sand present then we will require approximately 2kg of sample (contact us if unsure).
  3. Clearly label each sample with the location and depth it was taken from.
  4. Send the sample/s with a cover letter clearly stating the address of the site the sample was taken and an instruction to carry out a 4 point Atterberg test (this test will give you a plasticity index result).

The cost of the test is £28.00 + VAT per sample.  A minimum charge of £50.00 + VAT will apply for new customers only.   If the sample requires washing (if gravel and sand are present) then an extra over charge of £6.00 + VAT per sample will apply

Our standard turnaround is 10 working days. However should you require a quicker turnaround then a surcharge will apply – Please call to enquire.

The report will be issued to you in PDF Format. Please ensure that you include your email address on the cover letter and a telephone number.

Please note, we cannot provide any specific guidance on where to take the sample/s and how many are required. You should discuss this with the building inspector or your engineer/Architect etc if you have employed one.
