Plasticity Index Requests

If you have been advised by a building inspector to contact us to carry out a plasticity index test, then please follow the guidance below.   Please ensure all samples are sealed in a plastic bag or other appropriate container to  prevent loss of moisture.

The amount of sample required depends on the soil type. As a rough guide, If the soil is pure clay then 500g will suffice, but if there is gravel and sand present then we will require approximately 2kg of sample (contact us if unsure).

Clearly label each sample with the location and depth it was taken from.  Send the sample/s with a cover letter clearly stating the address of the site the sample was taken and an instruction to carry out a 4 point Atterberg test (this test will give you a plasticity index result).     A minimum charge of £175.00 + VAT will apply for new customers only.  We kindly request that new customers make payment in advance by cheque or we will submit and invoice for payment by BACS on receipt of the samples.  (please refer to the costs under Soil Testing if you already have a trading history with K4 Soils).

Our current turnaround is approximately 10 to 15 working days.  The report will be issued to you in PDF Format. Please ensure that you include your email address on the cover letter and a telephone number.   Please note, we cannot provide any specific guidance on where to take the sample/s and how many are required. You should discuss this with the building inspector or your engineer/Architect etc if you have employed one.
